SEX EDUCATION: PROTECT YOUNGSTERS FROM SEXUAL HARASSMENT

            When we talk about sex, maybe the first thing that come up from our mind is about the biological process that normally happen, so a woman give birth someone. But actually, sex is not only about that. Sex is a topic that has many things to known. We know about sex from sex education. Sex education is an education concerning about the gender, about relation, responsible issues, sexual anatomy, human’s organ of reproductive, and also about safe sex.  This kind of education is not commonly taught by teachers in school. People think that sex education is not necessary to teach for children. But have you ever thought what will happen if children never knew about sex?

            The answer is sexual harassment might be happen. In Indonesia, sexual harassment like sexual abuse, sexual activities that done by adult to children are often happen. Sadly, it often happens to children under 10 years old and also for children up to 10 years old or even teenagers. This accident happens mostly because children did not understand about their body and did not know how to protect the sensitive area. So when somebody or even a stranger does something bad to them, they just do nothing.

Children aged from 10-16 or we call them youngsters, usually the students in elementary school to senior high school. Children in elementary school usually did not get the education about sexual anatomy, or reproductive system. So it must be teach by their parents. It starts when parents introduce each part of their body. Parents explain that they have many organs, such as reproductive organs. Parents introduce what organ that they did not allow showing to people, what organ that can be touched only by themselves or their mother. Moreover, parents have to teach their children that if one day someone touches the forbidden area in their body, they have to tell their parents.

For the youngsters in junior - high school, they also need to be taught about sex education. The teenage age is the phase when children feel curious about many things, sexuality is no exception. They will search for information on the internet or ask their friends. Unfortunately, sometimes they have a bad influence on what they are curious about. It leads them to bad behavior such as free sex. That is why parents should be a part of the teenager phase of their children. They also need a right sexual education from their parents. So they will be responsible to protect themselves and make a healthy relationship with others.

In conclusion, we need sex education. We need to teach the youngsters about what they have in their body, how to respect them, and how to protect them. If children understand about sex, that is one of the effort to protect them from bad people who want to do sexual harassment. That is one of the crucial things that can protect our teenagers from bad behavior.
